Ulli Vilsmaier grew up in the Austrian Alps and has been trained as a Geographer at Salzburg University. Since 2011 she has been working at the Methodology Center and the Institute for Ethics and Transdisciplinary Sustainability Research, Faculty of Sustainability, of Leuphana University Lüneburg.
She hold a Junior Professorship on Transdisciplinary Methods from 2011-2017, has been Presidence Delegate for inter- and transdisciplinary and involved in university development, in particular in developing the interfaculty Methodology Center and various interdisciplinary study programs. Her research and teaching focus is on epistemological and methodological foundations, and methods for inter- and transdisciplinary research. Based on a logic of responsively she is working on the constitution of space and the design of inter- and transdisciplinary in-between spaces. Particular interest is on concept-, image and artefact based methods of boundary work, interdisciplinary interface design and formative accompanying research. Thematic research fields are: sustainability and sustainability science, sustainable urban and rural development, area protection, energy regions and regional climate change adaptation processes. Further research deals with theory and practice of inter- and transdisciplinary research based learning and global learning. She has been teaching at Salzburg University, University of Vienna (Austria), and several Universities of Latin America where she gained important insights into community based research approaches. Besides academic positions she has been working in alpine regional development, and development politics and education.

MBA from IMI (organized by Harvard, MIT, North Eastern business school, Wharton, and Columbia Management Schools) PhD in Management Systems (with strategic management of innovation and technology concentration) from the Center of Excellence and center for the systems research in Europe, the University of Hull, the UK ,Full professor of organizational theories, strategic, knowledge, and crises management in AllameTabaTabaee University, Tehran, Iran (IR) .Completed several pieces of research at regional (e.g.corporate governance), national (e.g.human resource needs), and industry (industry's needs for learning) .Supervision and Co-supervision: Supervised over 60 doctoral theses and around 300 masters dissertations, and cosupervised and refereed more than 250 other theses and dissertations .Have written over 70 papers both in English and Farsi appearing in scholarly journals
